VI Book Reviews in One Post!

I was going through my Goodreads and I realized a had a bunch a short reviews for 6 books and I didn’t like the idea of posting 6 super short book reviews in separate posts without going into detail so I decided instead of making them longer I would just combine them into one post! So many great books! Now, some of the reviews are short not because I didn’t have a lot to say about them. It’s that I had too much to say about them that I just couldn’t put my thoughts into words.

“My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations.”

Book Number 1:

17623975

Just One Day by Gayle Forman

Synopsis:

Allyson Healey’s life is exactly like her suitcase—packed, planned, ordered. Then on the last day of her three-week post-graduation European tour, she meets Willem. A free-spirited, roving actor, Willem is everything she’s not, and when he invites her to abandon her plans and come to Paris with him, Allyson says yes. This uncharacteristic decision leads to a day of risk and romance, liberation and intimacy: 24 hours that will transform Allyson’s life.
A book about love, heartbreak, travel, identity, and the “accidents” of fate, Just One Day shows us how sometimes in order to get found, you first have to get lost. . . and how often the people we are seeking are much closer than we know.

——–Spoiler Free——–

I honestly did not think I would like this book as much as I did.
Beautifully written. I loved reading it. It was just perfect. I was expecting this cheesy romance where the guy in girl fell in love in just one day. Which they did, but it wasn’t cheesy at all. And it wasn’t what the whole book was about. It was so much more than that. It’s a definite must read for anyone.
“Sometimes in order to get found, you first have to get lost.”
I loved that part in the synopsis because it’s true. Allyson was someone who always followed the rules and did whatever her parents told her too. Which is okay for a while, yes you should listen to your parents. But you also need to make your own mistakes and find your own path.

Book Number 2:

miss-peregrines

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Random Riggs

Synopsis:

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.
A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

——Spoiler Free——

It’s a very unique book and it’s really hard to believe the pictures in it are real! I very much enjoyed reading it and learning about Jacob. I liked it, I just didn’t love it, but I still can’t wait to read the second one!

Book Number 3:

The_Book_Thief_by_Markus_Zusak_book_cover

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

With the help of her accordion-playing foster-father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement.

——Spoiler Free——

Brilliant. So brilliant. Markus Zusak definitely doesn’t sugarcoat anything but I’m totally okay with that. So many tears. So many. Gosh darn it Rudy! I just don’t have any words to describe my feelings for this book. It is absolutely one of my favorite books ever really enjoyed it. Just go read it!

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

Fantastic.
I wish I could write more amazing words, but I just can’t explain awesomeness of this book. I was feeling so many emotions all at once while reading it, it’s just, amazing.
John Green you’ve done it again. Thanks for all the heartbreak.

A MUST read. Seriously if you haven’t read this book yet, then go do it!

——Spoiler Free——

Love, Aubrey is such an amazing book. It had me bawling my eyes out over the simplest lines Aubrey is such a strong character and there just isn’t enough words to describe how amazing this book is.
My friend recommended this book to me, I was hesitant to read it because I was very lazy back in 6th grade, but I’m so glad I did and I’ve read it every year since that day.
So just go ahead and check out this book from your local library or buy it yourself because you won’t regret it.

Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella | Currently Reading

I’m currently reading Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella to start off my summer contemporary reads, I’m on page 215 and I’m really enjoying it so far! I haven’t had a lot of time to read because I’ve been so busy but I really hope that changes so I can read some more. Summer was supposed to mean more time to read not less time!

Thoughts On The Book:

Emma is really funny, but I find her a tad annoying at times. Same with Jack Harper, he’s so ‘know-it-all’ and I’m not sure I like that. This book can be pretty cliché at times but I am enjoying this book. So far it’s a solid 3 stars, but I’m leaning toward maybe 3.5 stars? We’ll see. It all depends on Emma and Jack. Oh, and Emma’s cousin is a bitch. I can’t even remember her name, but I really don’t like her!

Meet Emma Corrigan, a young woman with a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a few little secrets:

Secrets from her mother:
I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom with Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben-Hur.

Secrets she wouldn’t share with anyone in the world:
I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is.

Until she spills them all to a handsome stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger.…Until Emma comes face-to-face with Jack Harper, the company’s elusive CEO, a man who knows every single humiliating detail about her.

We Were Liars Book Review/Discussion

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

we-were-liars-big

Synopsis (Taken From GoodReads):

A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from National Book Award finalist and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.

Read it.
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.

—-My Spoiler Free Review—-

In the beginning of the book I did have a little problem with the writing style, it was very confusing for me and it took me a while just to process what was happening. But by the end I did learn to really appreciate the beauty of the way E. Lockhart writes. It’s very poetic and I did enjoy it by the end of the book.

I really enjoyed the fairy tale variations, they were very creative and unique. Overall I’d probably give this book a four out of five stars. It was beautifully written and I enjoyed it, but I wasn’t in love with the characters like I wanted to be. I do recommend it and I agree with the people who have said it is best to go into this book without knowing anything about it. That’s why the synopsis is vague.

—-Thoughts On The End (SPOILERS!)—-

Wow. The ending. I was completely shocked! There were so many subtle hints of what had happened, like how no one would ever mentioned them, how they never went to supper with the family, how the Granddad called Candace Mirren. And a lot more, but still, I was completely surprised about the ending. Crying my eyes out, actually.

I’m honestly shocked I was bawling my eyes out since I wasn’t really in love with the characters. What were your thoughts on the ending?  Did you cry?

Spoiler Free Book Review

What I liked about City of Heavenly Fire and all of Cassandra Clare’s books is that she doesn’t haven’t to kill all of her characters to make an impact. Sometimes stories call for death of certain characters, but killing random characters off doesn’t make a great book. Not that Cassie didn’t kill of any of her characters, she did. Of course she did.

Deaths can be good for stories. They make the reader feel emotions for the characters, whether it’s a good emotion or a bad emotion. But I think a great author can make their reader feel emotions for characters without having them die. Cassandra Clare is a great author. Words cannot express how much I loved this book and the whole series overall. The books have changed my life and without them I wouldn’t be the person I am today. No matter how crazy that person is.

Thank you Cassie, for an amazing and unforgettable series.

Ave atque vale, TMI. Hail and farewell.
