The Night Circus

Synopsis:
(from GoodReads)

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazement. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.

–This Review Contains Spoilers. Read at your own risk—

I enjoyed the book way more than I thought I would. I thought it’d be a little bit boring based on the reviews I had read about it previously. And I also wasn’t sure how I’d like the multiple timelines going on during the story, but I’m actually really enjoying them. There were so many characters and I loved learning about all of them. Marco, Celia, Bailey, Poppet, Widget, and Frederick Theissan. Oh and Chandresh and Alexander. Hector was probably the only character I really didn’t like in this book. I liked both Isobel and Tsukiko as well.

There was so much mystery throughout the book I had so many questions floating around in my head. And I was constantly wondering why there were so many different side character point of views. But in the end everything ties together and suddenly the characters you thought wouldn’t play a big part in the story actually play a big part. And I really enjoyed that part about the ending of the book.

The book is so creative and unique and Erin Morgenstern has this way of writing that made me think I was actually visiting the circus. She has this one point of view that is written in second person and I really enjoyed reading those.

However I wanted more. Not as in I didn’t want the book to ever end. More like I just felt like we were missing so much. I wanted more Marco and Celia. I wanted more of their romance, and their adventures. And the rest of the characters too. Poppet, Bailey, Widget, and Isobel. Isobel just disappeared near the end and we don’t hear from her again. The book usually went from one year to the next without any story about the months between. I wanted to learn more about the characters. And the ending, maybe the author intended for the open ending, and some people enjoy open endings. It adds to the mystery, but I strongly dislike open endings. We never really know what happens to Marco and Celia. Or the rest of the characters. Maybe Marco and Celia find out they really can’t stand each other. Can they ever die? And what would happen to the circus if Bailey or either of them dies? There were just so many questions left unanswered and they will probably continue to eat at me for the rest of my life. I really hope nothing bad happens to Celia and Marco or the circus and the rest of the characters. But like I said, we’ll never know.

Overall I’d probably actually give this book a 4.7 or maybe 4.8 stars. I really did enjoy this book. It was such a beautiful and magical story and I fell in love with so many of the characters. It is definitely something I will try to eventually reread so I can further understand the book and maybe pick up on things I may have missed.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead | Marathon Update

Heyo everyone! So I just finished Shadow Kiss, which is the third book in the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead, and wow. Just Wow. Definitely my favorite so far and even though I wasn’t bawling at the ending like I was while reading Frostbite, I was still crying. The part with Lissa and Rose really got to me, their friendship is something that I truly admire so I really hope everything becomes okay with them.

As well as the ending with a certain ghost. Yeah that really got me too. I’m really gonna miss him. Oh and Adrian! Oh my poor Adrian, I know him and Rose don’t end up together, obviously because it’s her and Dimitri all the way, and I totally ship them. And even though I haven’t read Bloodlines yet I ship Adrian and Sydney. But I know that right now (the part that I’m reading) Adrian really likes Rose and I also know that Rose is going to break his heart eventually. And that will break my heart. I don’t think I will be prepared for that. I heart from my friends that she kind of does it in a pretty mean way. Awe, poor Adrian.

Anyways, most people will probably be thinking “What about the part with Dimitri?!”. Yeah, I was spoiled, so I already knew it was going to happen. But what can I expect really this series has been out for a while now, I’m pretty late to the party, whoops. Don’t get me wrong though, I still cried. Which is really weird because honestly, unless it’s for a book, I don’t cry a lot. You probably will never see me crying unless it’s for a book or someone close to me has died. I don’t get it either.

But now I’m in a huge dilemma! I don’t know if I should read Blood Promise, which is the next book, or if I should read my TBR jar pick, which is Wonder by R.J. Palacio. So many hard decisions to make. I guess we shall see on my mood. Hopefully I’m finished with this series (and maybe starting Bloodlines?) by the end of the month. Thanks for reading and may Adrian visit you in your dreams! Until next time, bye and happy reading!

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer | Book Review

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

twilight_book_cover

Synopsis:
(from GoodReads)

About three things I was absolutely positive:

First, Edward was a vampire.

Second, there was a part of him – and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be – that thirsted for my blood.

And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

When Bella Swan moves to the gloomy town of Forks and meets Edward Cullen, her life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. With his porcelain skin, golden eyes, mesmerizing voice, and supernatural gifts, Edward is both irresistible and impenetrable. Up until now, he has managed to keep his true identity hidden, but Bella is determined to uncover his dark secret.

What Bella doesn’t realize is the closer she gets to him, the more she is putting herself and those around her at risk. And it might be too late to turn back.

Yes people, I have never read Twilight before this year. I’m super, super, super late in reading this book and I still have yet to finish the series! I am slowly but surely finish the four books, I’m on book 3, Eclipse, right now. I don’t know why I’m suddenly picking up the series I just feel like almost everyone has read the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer and I’m missing a huge part of the reading experience if I don’t read the books. Do I have not like them? No. But I will feel accomplished if I read them. So that’s why I am slowly but surely, finishing the Twilight series. Here’s my review of the first book, I read it back in February. I wish I made it more funny because most reviews of this book now-a-days are hilarious.

-Spoiler Free Review!-
But everyone should know what happens right?

The book wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was hoping it’s be better but it wasn’t terrible, it was simply okay. Some parts of this book were eye roll worthy moments but I didn’t dislike the book as much as I thought I might but then again I’m not really into the whole “vampire” thing so that might explain why I didn’t fall in love with it like some people.

Bella annoyed me at some points. Like how weak and helpless she was. But I guess that’s just her character and I need to except that. I just don’t think I’ll ever understand why she so badly wanted to be a vampire. I get it she’s “in love” but still, being a vampire does not sound appealing to me at all. I feel like she doesn’t fully understand the consequences of being a vampire. She too blinded by the thought of “forever” what about her family? She can’t just up and leave. Her and the ending irked me. I hope the other books get a little better. Maybe?

The characters I actually liked were Alice and Jasper, they were really cool and awesome, I just wished we got to learn more about them.

I believe Stephenie Meyer is truly a good writer I just didn’t connect with ten Twilight world, but I will continue to read her novels and probably finish this series eventually.

Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2) by Richelle Mead | Book Review

Frostbite by Richelle Mead
Vampire Academy book 2

frostbite-richelle-mead

Do not read if you have not read the first book in the Vampire Academy series.
Read my spoiler free review of the first book in the Vampire Academy series here

Synopsis:
(from GoodReads)

Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose…

It’s winter break at St. Vladimir’s, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy’s crawling with Guardians—including Rose’s hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn’t bad enough, Rose’s tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason’s got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks… This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price.

–Spoiler Free Review–

In Frostbite you learn more about who Rose Hathaway is. She’s someone who loves her best friend Lissa and will do anything to protect her. I definitely liked her more in this book. Even though she was quite fickle when it came to guys, she was much more responsible. At least sometimes. What I truly love about Rose is that although she can be quite mean, she isn’t afraid to say what’s on her mind and tell people the truth and that’s something I really like about her. She also isn’t afraid to admit her mistakes. She’s a very strong character and I’m starting to really like her more and more.

And I’m a little embarrassed to admit it but in the end I was literally bawling my eyes out. I didn’t understand why I was crying so hard, I’ve never cried that hard for a book before. It was so bad my eyes were all red and my head was hurting because it was becoming hard for me to breathe. There were so many emotions flowing through me, how protective Rose was over friends and how her mother was there for her, even Mia. Mia grew up in this book as well. I guess I fell in love with all these characters more than I expected to.

I can’t wait to read the next book, I’m super curious about Adrian Ivashkov, he seems like a really interesting character. Richelle Mead thanks for all the feels.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead: Currently Reading | Book Review

I am super excited for my marathon of the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead! I finished the first book in the series in less than 24 hours and I’m a few pages into the second book in the series which is Frostbite and I’m really enjoying it so far!

Once I got used to all the new terms the book was a super fast and fun read. I had a few problems with the main character Rose, as much as I loved her badass personality I also found her really mean at times. Most of the time her rudeness was understandable, she was protecting Lissa or standing up for herself to all the mean students, but sometimes it was really unnecessary. Does being a badass automatically have to make you a jerk as well? No. In her eyes everyone at the academy was “boring” and she was better than everyone else. And I can’t believe she would possibly ruin her best friend’s relationship just because she was jealous and didn’t like the guy! But I did admire Rose and Lissa’s friendship, it was beautiful to see how protective they were of each other, it’s a true friendship that I know will only get stronger as the books go on and I am very excited to read about it.

So far she’s probably not my favorite heroine ever but maybe my feelings for her will change further into the series. I am super excited to continue with the series and learn more about her and all the other characters as well. But I’m also super nervous because when the book ends everything was okay, maybe not exactly perfect, but life was okay for the characters. And the thought that there are still five books left in the series scares me so much. I absolutely terrified of what’s to come!

If you’ve read the Vampire Academy series (which I’m sure some of you have since I’m pretty late to the party… XD) tell me your thoughts in the comments! Will I get super emotionally invested? I’m not sure if I can handle more heartbreak though! I’ll probably do mini reviews for each book in the series and then do one huge wrap up review of all of the books. Not sure yet.

I bought so many books this month, I’m kind of embarrassed… My local bookstore was having a huge sale and once I started I couldn’t stop buying, I have no self-control, its pathetic really.

It’s time for my latest Wattpad book obsession! I’ve been super obsessed with Mr. Popular and I by thefreakoffreaks. Oh. My. God. I love this book so much! I hope it gets published one day, I really do. It seems a little cheesy, and it is at times, but who cares right? The story is so adorable and the main character reminds me so much of myself. And River freaking Parker is the love of my life, but then again I say this about a lot of fictional characters. Everyone has to read it. I love it, I’ve reread it twice now the author Indie has to update soon! Rivea FOREVER! ❤

Okay that’s all, happy reading everyone!

Dear River Parker,

I love you.
